My name is Soumik Mohian, Ph.D. Student at CSE department and I am asking you to participate in a UT Arlington research study titled,” Sketch UI Element”. The goal of the study is to generate a fully functional mobile application from the artifacts most comfortable for designers and students like sketches. The proposed technique will help non-programmers to generate apps without extensive effort. It also helps the programming side when they have ready-to-use code structures for the User Interface layout. For the study, we need several sketches of UI elements. These sketches can be used further in this field of study.
Your decision about whether to participate is entirely up to you. If you decide not to be in the study, there won’t be any punishment or penalty; whatever your choice, there will be no impact on any benefits or services that you would normally receive. Even if you choose to begin the study, you can also change your mind and quit at any time without any consequences.
If you decide to participate in this research study, the list of activities that I will ask you to complete for the research are-
The procedures that you will follow as a research subject are -
(1) Go the website http://pixeltoapp.com/draw/
(2) Most common User Interface elements will appear at the left side of the screen.
(3) Draw User Interface in the canvas and click save to complete the goal.
(4) Optional sign up option is available in the website to keep track of your number of drawing.
It should take about 10-15 minutes to complete a goal. You can complete as many goals as you wish. If you are voluntarily participating in the study, you will learn about the common UI elements to develop mobile applications and good understandings of mobile app design. For Mechanical Turk user, you can only complete the task once and paid once for your corresponding Mechanical Turk ID. After completion of the task, it will be reviewed. If it looks like a sincere attempt or at least you tried, then the reward will be processed. The study activities are not expected to pose any additional risks.
The research team is committed to protecting your rights and privacy as a research subject. We may publish or present the results, but your name will not be used. Only the sketches will be collected from participants and stored temporarily in the Amazon S3 bucket. And after reviewing the sketches manually, all the data will be stored in a university-owned desktop with disk encryption and UTA cloud services. Later these sketches will be made publicly available via Github or Google Drive. No information will be made public to trace the sketches back to the user. If you make an options account, you’re all login credentials will be stored in DynamoDB database service offered by the Amazon and password will be encrypted. It will only be used to show the user progress. And for Mechanical Turk user, you only need to submit the survey token. It will be traced to approve the payment. While absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed, the research team will make every effort to protect the confidentiality of your records as described here and to the extent permitted by law. If you have questions about the study, you can contact me at soumik.mohian@mavs.uta.edu. For questions about your rights or to report complaints, contact the UTA Research Office at 817-272-3723 or regulatoryservices@uta.edu.
